Our farmers, our partners

The Red Mountain Group was created with two simple goals in mind: improve the lives of the people who sustainably grow our coffee; and make a high-quality product more accessible.

As fellow coffee drinkers, we know you work hard. But do you work ‘coffee farmer’ hard?

These folks have no time off. No birthday celebrations. No chill Sundays or sick leaves. They spend countless hours working on small plots of land, typically less than five hectares – roughly the size of 50 tennis courts combined.

Year after year, though, these farmers get squeezed from both ends.

As government regulations increase and become more complex, it drives up the farmers’ production costs. At the same time, corporations whose main priority is to please shareholders – which they do by maximising profits via the acquisition of intermediaries in the supply chain, diminishing the farmers' negotiation power.

This wrench-like grip puts the farmers under tremendous financial stress. They lack the capital required to take care of their land, improve their produce, or invest in better machinery.

At The Red Mountain Group, we address these issues by providing farmers with market knowledge and a fair price for their coffee.

As the coffee nerd you are, you probably know that finding truly exceptional coffee, as in graded above 95 on the Specialty Coffee Association (SCA) scale for less than 50 euros per 500 gr is not an easy task. Achieving such quality requires a sophisticated farming process, typically accessible only to farms with ample resources.

We love a good challenge, though.

This is why we’re covering the local government’s costly fees and taxes to export our coffee. With our savings, we’re establishing a frugal yet high-tech warehouse near the farmers' community to streamline the coffee transformation process.

We’re also investing in the enhancement of their cultivation techniques, so we can unlock the true potential of their produce.

Finally, armed with our irresistible charm and many, many years of experience in sales, we’re leveraging our contacts in Europe so we can engage directly with the final customer. Yes, that’s you!

It’s a win-win-win situation.

Through us, the farmers can use our production warehouse to sell high quality coffee. This will result in higher returns for both the farmers and the environment, while also offering better prices for the customers. That is our existential purpose.

Currently the farmers' farms and warehouse are located in Tolima in the village called “Tapias”, the region is the second-largest coffee producer in Colombia. The farmer's precise location is in the volcanic area of “El Machin” at an altitude of 1900 metres above sea level. The volcanic soil and the altitude in this region grants coffee with special qualities, providing it with a competitive advantage in terms of quality.
